7 Low-Effort Ways for Solitary Witches to Celebrate Samhain

The following is an excerpt from the Wheel of the Year course materials offered as part of Inner Circle Membership.

We are so blessed to have access to so much information and resources on the ancient practices of our craft. The Wheel of the Year is one such practice that has been passed down through generations of witches, and it holds so much power and magic within it.

As we move through the seasons, we are given the opportunity to connect more deeply with the natural world around us. We can honor the changes in the weather and the rhythms of the earth, and use this connection to deepen our understanding of ourselves and our place in the world.

Learning about the Wheel of the Year has been one of the most special things I have done for my witchcraft practice. I have found that by following the cycles of the year, I have become more attuned to the natural world and have developed a deeper understanding of the world around me.

I encourage you to explore the Wheel of the Year in your own practice. Take time to learn about the different sabbats and how they correspond to the seasons. Explore the rituals and spells associated with each sabbat and see how they resonate with you.

I would love to hear about your journey as you explore the Wheel of the Year. I know that as we share our experiences, we will both learn and grow in our understanding of our craft.

Samhain is one of the most magical times of the year, marking the thinning of the veil between worlds and offering a powerful opportunity to honor our ancestors and the cycles of life. But not every witch has the energy or time to dive into an elaborate ritual—and that’s okay! If you’re a solitary or introverted witch looking for simple, low-effort ways to honor the season, I’ve got you covered. Here are seven "lazy girl" ways to celebrate Samhain that are meaningful, yet easy to incorporate into your day.

1. Light a Candle for Your Ancestors 🕯️

This is perhaps one of the simplest ways to celebrate Samhain. Light a candle in honor of your ancestors and loved ones who have passed. Spend a few quiet moments reflecting on their lives, offering gratitude, or simply thinking of them. The flicker of the flame symbolizes the connection between realms, making this an easy yet powerful way to tap into the energy of Samhain.

2. Samhain Movie Night 🎃

Who says celebrating Samhain has to be all serious? A cozy movie night featuring witchy, Halloween, or spooky films can be just the thing to get into the seasonal spirit. Light some candles, grab your favorite fall snacks, and enjoy a night of magical entertainment. It’s a perfect, low-key way to honor the dark, mystical energy of the season.

3. Dress Witchy or Wear All Black 🖤

You don’t need a full ritual setup to feel the magic of Samhain—sometimes, simply dressing the part is enough. Put on your favorite witchy outfit, an all-black ensemble, or add a magical accessory like a pentacle or crystal necklace. You’ll feel connected to your inner witch without having to lift a finger to perform a ritual.

4. Make a Simple Fall Snack 🍏

Embrace the flavors of autumn with an easy snack like sliced apples, pumpkin spice tea, or hot cider. There’s something deeply satisfying about enjoying the seasonal harvest, and even a quick snack can feel like a mini celebration. Enjoy it mindfully, knowing that you’re partaking in the abundance of the season.

5. Journal Your Reflections for the Year 📝

Samhain is a time of reflection and release. If you’re feeling introspective but don’t want to engage in a lengthy ritual, try journaling your thoughts. Reflect on what you’re ready to let go of and what you hope to bring into your life as the wheel of the year turns. This can be done in just a few minutes, and it's a great way to honor the themes of transition and renewal.

6. Decorate with Nature 🍂

Head outside and gather a few natural items like fallen leaves, acorns, or pinecones. Bring them inside and place them on your altar, windowsill, or kitchen table. This simple act of bringing nature indoors helps you connect to the energy of the season and honors the natural world’s transition without much effort.

7. Set a Bedtime Intention 🌙

Before you drift off to sleep, take a moment to set an intention for the coming season. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and focus on what you want to manifest or what you’re ready to release. This quick, low-effort mini-meditation can be done while already snuggled up in bed—no extra tools or setup required!
