Building a Witchy Community

You must believe me, I KNOW how hard it can be to find your witchy tribe. Finding a witchcraft community and making magical friends can be a wonderful and fulfilling experience. It can provide a sense of belonging and connection, as well as support and guidance on your spiritual journey. However, it can also be difficult to know where to start and how to find a those who mix with your beliefs and practices.

I am a solitary witch. I prefer to practice magic and ritual alone. But the truth is that community and friendship play an important role in the craft. Having a supportive network of fellow witches can provide emotional and spiritual support, as well as opportunities for learning, growth, and connection.

A strong sense of community offers a safe space for discussing your beliefs and experiences, as well as providing a sounding board for your ideas and rituals. Whether it's through in-person gatherings, online forums, or casual get-togethers, connecting with other witches can help you to feel less isolated and more connected to the wider community.

Friendships are crucial for maintaining good mental health and overall well-being. When we have friends who understand and accept us, we feel more confident and secure in ourselves, which can enhance our spiritual practice and help us to maintain a positive outlook.

Events and Local Groups

One way to find a witchcraft community is to attend events and gatherings. Many cities and towns have pagan and witchcraft festivals, open rituals, and other events where you can meet other practitioners in person. This can be a great way to make new friends, connect with like-minded individuals, and learn more about different traditions and practices.

You can also seek out local covens and groups. Many covens and groups have meetups, classes, and workshops, which are a great way to connect with others and learn more about specific traditions and practices. Joining a coven or group can also provide a sense of belonging and connection, as well as guidance and support from more experienced practitioners.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Meetup.com or local pagan/witchcraft events

  • Local spiritual or metaphysical shops often host events and classes. I’ve even gone so far as to regularly haunt my local metaphysical store and make an effort to chat up the employees and other patrons. Nerdy but necessary!

  • Community centers and coven-sponsored events

  • Classes or workshops at a local college or community center

  • Local pagan/witchcraft publications or newsletters

  • Facebook local groups

  • Recommendations from friends who practice witchcraft. Usually if you can find one person, they will be more than happy to share their knowledge about the local witchy scene.

In person events and community building do require a degree of bravery. And in smaller communities, you may be nervous about being “out” as a modern witch.

Stepping out as a witch can be a difficult and daunting process, but it can also be incredibly empowering. It is important to remember that you have the right to practice your beliefs and spirituality, and that you should not be ashamed or embarrassed about who you are. It can be helpful to start by being open with a select few people and work your way up to being more public about your beliefs.

Online

Whether you are out as a witch or not, find online resources and communities that can provide support, information, and connection. There are many online forums, social media groups, and websites dedicated to witchcraft where you can connect with others who share your beliefs and practices. These online communities can provide a sense of connection and support, and can also be a great resource for information.

Some things to look for when deciding to participate in an online witchy community:

  • Inclusiveness and diversity in membership and beliefs

  • Respectful and constructive communication between members

  • Clear guidelines and codes of conduct

  • Active participation and engagement

  • Experienced and knowledgeable moderators

  • A focus on education and learning

  • Relevant and up-to-date information

  • Support for ethical and responsible practice

  • A positive and non-judgmental atmosphere

  • Opportunities for connecting with other members and forming connections

Always be respectful of the beliefs of others in your witchcraft communities!
