As with other magical tools, you will need to cleanse and charge your deck routinely. As mentioned, I place a piece of clear quarts on top of my deck whenever it is not in use. I also place my deck under the light of every full moon, usually with that same quartz crystal on top, weighting down the cards in case a wind comes up. The way you choose to charge your deck will be unique to you and there are many ways to reach the same end point. Here are six ideas for cleansing and charging your tarot deck.
Set your deck in the sun for a few hours. I recommend morning time to avoid fading. Place a crystal or talisman on them to weigh them down if outside. Or place them in a sunny window. Just don’t forget and leave them too long because they may fade.
Moon light is another popular charging and cleansing method. Generally the waning moon is powerful in banishing and releasing energy vs the waxing moon’s manifesting energy. See what works best for you.
Pass the deck of cards through cleansing smoke. This could be smoke from incense or a homemade bundle of herbs. Any sort of cleaning smoke will work.
Place a crystal on top of your deck like I do, or lay out a full crystal grid.
Sprinkle salt over and around the cards while they are fanned out across a table top. Try to make sure every card is exposed.
These are just a few ideas to get you started. The important idea here is that you will want to cleanse your deck semi-regularly and for sure anytime someone other than yourself has touched the cards.
A beautiful piece of clear or rose quartz makes an excellent weight for your deck of tarot cards as well as cleansing them when not in use.
